Review

Following the annihilation of the 12 colonies of Man, a small fleet of survivors was chased by the vast forces of their attackers, the Cylons. That fleet was infiltrated by a number of Cylon models under the control of model number One. He attempted several acts of terror, but was thwarted as the other models failed in their missions, or just simply chose not to obey. On cylon occupied Caprica, another model One holed up with a resistance cell and learned more about the resilience of men than he could have possibly wanted.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is one of the finest science fiction shows ever put on the television, but you wouldn't know it from this second TV movie following the end of the final series. Where RAZOR managed to add a little depth and some surprising extra information to a single short period of the series, this tries to show a more expansive story over a longer period and fails utterly.

Seemingly a collection of sequences that didn't make it into the show at the time, cobbled together with some pointless ramblings about the meaning of it all, there is precious little coherence here, the story jumping by weeks and even months at a time to seemingly random points that don't add up to anything and don't build up a real narrative. Anyone who is not a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will not have a chance of understanding what the hell is going on as characters randomly drift in and out of the story dependant on what out takes were available at the time.

Dean Stockwell is the glue that tries to keep all of this together. His model of Cylon was always one of the more dislikeable and more conflicted between deep faith and earthly pleasures. He even manages a shock with the story of the boy who wants to sleep in the chapel, but even he can't make this add up to very much. Tricia Helfer in her underwear is an added bonus, but not really in the spirit of the show as a whole.

THE PLAN is an attempt to milk just a little bit more money out of the franchise and is a sad postscript to what remains one of the genre's finest acheivements on television.
